September 19, 2013 Season 2: Crush - Seyval Blanc Harvest At Bellangelo, one of our perennially best selling wines is our Seyval Blanc.  Though Seyval Blanc is often thought of as a mediocre wine grape, as with everything in agriculture, location matters.  Our Seyval is sourced from Marty Gibson, owner and farmer of one of the most cherished 10 acre plots of land on the west side of Seneca Lake.  Our Seyval is truly an example that "wine is made in the vineyard," as it produces a beautiful "citrusy" wine with notes of fresh cut grass.  It is a wine you must try.  After one taste, we're sure you'll want more.

Crush - Hand Picking Pinot Noir

At Bellangelo, we source Pinot Noir from Jeff Morris of Glenora Farms, and John Tuller, of Tuller Vineyards.  On September 13, 2013, the Bellangelo crew went out to Jeff Morris' vineyards where we hand picked only the best clusters for Select Bunch Harvest Pinot Noir.  Only the best clusters were chosen and picked.   For this small batch of Pinot Noir, our winemaker, Ian Barry, decided to experiment with one of the two brand new FlexTanks we purchased.  The FlexTank was sealed and a carbon dioxide rich environment was created by forcing CO2 into the tank.  The method of fermentation this Pinot Noir batch will go through is called carbonic maceration, and will accentuate the nice fruit notes in this...

Crush Begins - Chardonnay for Sparkling Wine

In our constant pursuit of fine artisan winemaking that seeks to maximize the expression of our pristine region, Bellangelo has set out to craft its first ever sparkling wine. Made from Chardonnay vines that were planted in the 1970's from grafts of the original Charles Fournier vineyards in the Finger Lakes, these grapes are grown by Jeff Morris on one of the oldest blocks in his vineyard, located a few hundred meters from the lake on the sloping hills of the west side of Seneca Lake. Once the grapes reached the winery, which is about 4 miles from the vineyard site, we conducted a whole cluster press, and separated the soft press juice from the harder press juice. The soft...
